Training on Geo-hydrology and follow-up on the well drilling programCountry: Madagascar MedAir has received funds from the EU Water Facility for the construction of 750 sustainable water points in a four year program. The Geology in the area of Maroantsetra in the north-east of Madagascar is suitable for manual drilling. In August 2006 3 manual drilling teams have received their first hand-on manual drilling training using the Rota sludge and jetting methods. By the end of 2007 the teams have been drilling 150 drinking water wells. In January 2008 3 new private sector drilling teams have been trained by PRACTICA and MedAir trainers. Technical follow-up and a training course on Geo-hydrology, hygiene, well construction and well development was provide by a PRACTICA expert. Parallel to the training program for the manual drilling teams, ‘train the trainer’ sessions took place to ensure the sustainability of knowledge transfer. In 2009 PRACTICA will provide backstopping to MedAir during the implementation of the well drilling program. |
