The project

A French NGO “1001 Fontaine pour demain” wants to introduce in Madagascar an ultraviolet water treatment powered by solar energy for small rural isolated communities (villages, schools, health care dispensaries) to independently produce the drinkable water they need, using surface water. A first experimental project was conducted with Cambodian communities and has confirmed the feasibility and the adequacy with beneficiaries’ needs.

On the request of “1001 Fontaine” PRACTICA conducted a feasibility study on the introduction of this process in the north east of Madagascar :

Status

After the positive reporting PRACTICA is preparing in collaboration with “1001 Fontaine ” a project for funding, covering four villages where the process and the approach will be tested. The project will be implemented by a national NGO , Frères de Saint Gabriel, involved in several WatSan projects in the area of intervention.

The perspectives

1001 FontainesIf the results of the first phase are positives, a second project (Phase 2) covering eight to ten new sites will start. Phase 2 aims at standardising the process, its operating procedures and delivery methodologies and at establishing the infrastructure required for a wide-range roll-out with the local partner.
