The project

After the good results on the introduction of small scale irrigation technologies in Madagascar with the collaboration of PRACTICA, FAO decided to find funding to implement on large scale a project of promotion of small scale irrigation in the South of Madagascar where the food situation is critic. It has been requested to PRACTICA to write a project proposal for funding.

The results

A complete project proposal has been written and submitted to USAID for funding.

In the project proposal Care is the main partner in the implementation and PRACTICA the technical partner. Care is involved in several rural projects related to the improvement of the agricultural production (vegetables, fruits and rice) in the South. The project proposal has been revised and accepted for a total project (2 years) of €377.000.

The project name ” Utilising small scale irrigation systems for household and market oriented agricultural production in Anosy ” has 4 components : irrigated perimeter rehabilitation, small scale irrigation, market capacity & professionalism and land use action plan.

The perspectives

CareFAOIn the 2nd component a budget of €31.300 is affected for a technical assistance for an irrigation expert on small scale irrigation activities. For this technical assistance a call of proposal will be published beginning of 2007 where PRACTICA has good chance to be selected for the implementation of activities of identification of suitable sites, training of local workshops, follow up of workshops and quality control of equipment, reinforcement of technical capacities of local partners.
